Floating Points drops uptempo new single ‘Birth4000’

The single is available on limited white label.

Sam Shepherd aka Floating Points has shared a new song. called ‘Birth4000’, which via Ninja Tune, which will be released on a limited white label.

It follows recent singles from 2022 – ‘Vocoder‘  ‘Grammar’  and ‘Problems’ which are similarly dancefloor-facing.

‘Birth4000’ will be released on limited white label 12″ vinyl on 3 November, available for pre-order.

Recent singles have come after last year’s top of the list collaborative album Promises with the recently passed Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra.

Floating Points performed Promises at the Hollywood Bowl last month with an all-star cast of players that included Shabaka Hutchings, Kieran Hebden (Four Tet), Dan Snaith (Caribou), Kara Lis Coverdale and Hinako Omori with Miguel Atwood Ferguson conducting.

Shepherd has spent the great part of 2023 composing his first ballet for symphony orchestra and electronics. Mere Mortals will be performed by the San Francisco Ballet, premiering in January 2024.

The track’s artwork comes from Tokyo based artist Akiko Nakayama. Nakayama is a painter who depicts the beauty of conveying energy metamorphosis through media such as installation, videos, and performance. She brings painting to life by combining the energy of movement and the vibrance of colours, called “Alive Painting”.
