One of Galway’s largest and longest-running club spaces Electric closed its doors during the pandemic after being closed for 19 months. It’s now set to reopen.
It’s rare for some good news in the venue space these says so to hear that Electric in Galway is to reopen this year as a multipurpose venue is worthy of noting.
Previously, Electric focused on club music, but always had a satellite of a restaurant and bar space in Biteclub. This new iteration will feature a restaurant, club, live music, and different cultural offerings.
The building was recently sold and the former general manager from 2013 to 2019, James Finan and his business partner then signed the lease for the property. He told the Irish Independent.. “there have been numerous attempts to have it reopened and I guess it was kind like a labour of love to come back in and rescue a place for dancing and a venue in the city …young people need a place to socialise, and I know all the late bars are there but you know, we always grow up with venues and nightclubs, they do serve a good purpose.””
The news originally broke in the week leading up to Christmas, but the venue’s closure over the pandemic in 2021 means a renovation must take place before it reopens, starting with the venue space, before café, bar and restaurant offerings are added.
