I Was There – new music podcast about historic Irish gigs released

The Tenth Man have released a new three-part music documentary series that focuses on iconic Irish gigs of the past.
Bob Marley at Dalymount Park in 1980, Nirvana opening for Sonic Youth at Sir Henry’s in Cork in 1991 and The Cranberries in Cruise’s Hotel in 1990 are the gigs in question.
The series is presented by music and culture journalist Dylan Murphy (Mabfield / ex District), and interviews fans, musicians, promoters and tells the stories of these legendary Irish shows.
The Bob Marley episode 1 is now up to hear, and covers Marley’s pre-show football match and how the show almost didn’t happen.
Subsequent episodes to follow on the 17th and 24th.
More about upcoming episodes.
Episode 2. Before Nevermind turned Nirvana into global icons, they performed in Cork, Ireland, opening for Sonic Youth at Sir Henry’s in 1991. This intimate gig, attended by just 50 people at the start of the night, captured the band on the cusp of revolutionizing rock music. Featuring interviews with Sean O’Neil (former owner of Sir Henry’s), NME photographer Ed Sirrs, MOJO’s Keith Cameron, Morty McCarthy of Sultans of Ping and more, the episode vividly brings this fabled night to life and highlights the unique role of Ireland’s music venues in fostering transformative moments in music history.
Episode 3 explores Dolores O’Riordan’s transformative first gig with The Cranberries after joining the band in 1990. From her unforgettable audition to the creation of “Linger,” this episode celebrates her legacy and the rise of Irish music in the ‘90s. Episode 3
