Irish indie-pop band Still Blue have announced their debut EP All Over The Chip Shop, will be out on June 16th on Faction Records.
To coincide with the announcement, ‘Lace’ is a new song from the trio – vocalist Nicole Lyons, Ruairi Forde on guitar, and Greg Kearns on drums – showcasing a different side to their sound.
It follows on from debut Faction single ‘Honeysuckle Daydream’ and previous singles we featured ‘Ladybird’ and ‘Whatcha Gonna Do’.
‘Lace’ the band say, is “a sad song about sex,” but that’s just the shorthand.
“I remember when I first wrote Lace back in 2021, I wanted to keep it for myself. It felt too personal of a song to share with anyone, let alone release it! It’s an incredibly vulnerable song describing a very female experience wherein you would degrade yourself to nothing but an object, to gain any sort of intimacy from another person. Trying to feel comfortable in your sexuality whilst only being viewed as a body is so confusing as a young woman. People will do whatever it takes to feel loved, even if that means lowering their standards until they’re nonexistent.”

Lace Lyrics
Naive in a closed off room
Why do ya gotta leave so soon?
Oh, well I wish I could’ve thought it through
but I would do anything for you
Ooh
This bed for one was made for two
When the kettle boiled, I warmed up to idea
That this wasn’t through
I’ll get on top for a better view
Now I’m diluted, I’m not mine I’m yours
And I’ll shout as you leave that you’re a bore
Well, the rain will replace your snore
But babe, I don’t want anything more
Naive in a closed off room
Why do ya gotta leave so soon?
Oh, well I wish I could’ve thought it through
but I would do anything for you, ooh ooh
Well, it’s taking all I have to give it, to give it
What will it take for you to give in, to give in?
It’s taking all I have to give it, to give it
What will it take for you to give in, to give in, to give in, to give in?
Naive in a closed off room
Why do ya gotta leave so soon?
Oh, well I wish I could’ve thought it through
but I would do anything for you
Silence never felt so loud
Trying to feel more proud
Of the things that I do
For myself and not for you
But it’s all for you
Oh, it’s all for you
I’m just a body covered up in lace
