see you there!
🙂
They’ve pulled off a couple of surprisingly big coups there. Kind of has something for everyone.
The Gossip, Franz Ferdinand, Fatboy Slim, CSS and Bloc Party for the people who didn’t get Oxegen tickets.
Loads for proper musos as you’d expect
Human League, 808 State, The Orb, Buzzcocks, Chic, Jimmy Cliff, Kevin Rowland, Paul Weller and James for the now annual Reminiscapalooza “Jesus, they have way more songs than I remember”
My really happy list is pretty similar to yourself, but I’ll add Bonnie Prince Billy
I expect this is only an early list and we’ll get loads added as we have in previous years too
this is the list of “guesses” posted on the @ hotlucnches blog. He seems to have a finger on the pulse, so hopefully he’s right – alot of pretty decent acts there!

This was all over the internet yesterday and a few were confirmed by a promoter also.
Doesn’t this seem a bit like the 2006 line-up?
@ James – perhaps, but isn’t it nice to get a second run at it?
i’m very excited.
Cornelius!
Wasn’t going to go but now i think i’ll have to!
really hope chic are playing at this… also can’t wait to see neon neon
Great line up if it’s on the money.
Though Jape can’t be left out 2 years in a row surely.
Can’t wait to see Super Extra Bonus Party whoever they are.
if cornelius are confirmed, its a must go.
If any of you saw the show they put on at ATP last year you will know what I mean…. best stage show I have ever seen. With Massive Attack and MBV….well I can almost forgive no Portishead.
Wheeee, MBV and Franz are headliners!!!!!!!!! Oh happy day(s)! Glad SEBP are coming back!
Really looking forward to seeing SFA, I know it’s a cardinal sin but I’ve never seen them live…and SAUL WILLIAMS….The Roots…Massive Attack… Ulrich Schnauss too. Will be on tenterhooks at 6pm 🙂
Name Cornelius…
adult chimpanzee…
speaks engl…
wahoo wahoo wahoo wahoo wahoo
monkey!
*cough*
WILCO
*cough*
Jesus, fucking incredible. I kinda stole it from you – sorry. Don’t worry though, fuck all people read our blog.
Dirty Three, Notwist, Low, Dineen, Amiina, Tellier, GRAND NATIONAL!, Hawtin, Trentemoller, I don’t know where to start.
Best line up I’ve seen in a very long time. Reckon Oye will do his Whitest Boy Alive stuff if he’s there with KoC?
Cheers!
Oh yeh, thanks Gav.
I heard Wilco yesterday too.. added.
Cannot wait to see Cornelius again!
Stoked about Grand National! Plenty of hip hop and reggae too which is generally under represented at festivals. Sa-weet!
full line-up announced and is markedly different from this:
http://www.state.ie/blog/electric-picnic-line-up-announcement/
Plenty of the above missing from the official list, what gives? I assume they’re being held back?
jesus, the official one is shocking. primavera it is so..
Nialler, I note that SEBP is on your list of predictions but they weren’t announced in the official list. I have no doubt that they are set to play EP, as you of all people would be in the know. But isn’t the omission of them from the official list an indication that there is a second wave of high profile acts yet to announced?
very underwelming so far!

there is always a 2nd big announcement as far as i know
christy moore, hells yeah!!! sebp and christy on stage together, mike on lead hurley! awesome!
If Trentemoller’s been snatched away from me for the second year running, I’m gonna be livid!
The stuff they’ve announced so far leans towards the fey Irish-indie-wastrels scene a bit too much. Where’s the dubstep? Lidell? Mogwai? Dan le Sac? Saul Williams? And even SEBP? I give up.
I’m just going to try and avoid last year’s endless speculation (remember all that?) if I can.
Bleedin rumours. Where did the likely line-up originate? I reckon Niall knows something we don’t…

Well, I think Skream’s set was great last year, despite the sound system, and I’ve no doubt someone like Geiom (fantastic IDM-esque dubstep), Distance or Loefah would go down a storm at EP.
It’s just so wrong that Aphex is playing Poxegen instead of the Picnic. He’ll probably be laughing all the way to the bank, but it seems like he’s accidentaly picked the wrong festival. Someone should have a word.
Crystal Castles would be great. Although EP really missed the boat when they left out The Knife the past couple of years. Having seen them in Paris, I can tell you they would have been the scariest thing ever to happen in a tent in Laois, and I’m sure there’d be fierce competition for that accolade.

They are playing but haven’t been announced yet. But by my guestimation and subsequent time to reflect on that initial line-up it seems plenty of them won’t be playing this year. I may have been too trigger happy, forgiving with the first lineup I got. Cornelius, I still have hope for! 🙁
At the moment, it really lacks dance, electronica and hip-hop (which EP has always lacked) acts. So I can only presume those stages haven’t been announced yet.
Here’s the full “official” list so far. I’ll try not to post any more speculation as I’ve been disappointed so far, so no doubt you guys all are too..

Dear Nialler9,
Please fix it so that Billy Bragg is playing.
Thnx.
€272 for that crap. Good luck to anybody who goes to that and thanks for ruining what was a decent little festival.
yeah nialler bodytonic still have to announce their line up…. looking forward to seeing who they have
also is foggy notions having a tent at it this year? heard they weren’t
SIGUR ROS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!JUANA MOLINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UNDERWORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
“At the moment, it really lacks dance, electronica and hip-hop (which EP has always lacked)”
Don’t know what you’re talking about. The first year there wasn’t a guitar in sight, and there weren’t many the second (and by far best) year either.
Man, your likely line-up really got a lot of people salivating only to be disappointed. The onward march towards Oxygen-isation of my favourite festival continues with this ropey line-up.
How about State investigate whether the bars will close at 10pm each night or whether there will be enough room to swing a cat in the campsites as this supposedly “boutique” festival?
“Man, your likely line-up really got a lot of people salivating only to be disappointed.”
To be fair to Nialler al ot of us were duped by that, it was from a supposedly reputable source, but I think it’d be naive to think that the rest on that list will be announced later.

Sorry for ruining your Electric Picnic 2008 guys 🙁
“At the moment, it really lacks dance, electronica and hip-hop (which EP has always lacked)”
I was referring to the hip-hop there. I’d always love more than just a couple of hip-hop acts.

OK Gar.
€272 for that crap..
Wow, is that what it comes out at with booking fees? wow. I’m glad I’m going to Primavera. €135 for 3 days.
No one reppin the 21st century….
272 for that crap
in fairness it is a fuckin rip off. but then again, so is oxegen and everything else in this dismal fucking place….
bah fucking humbug, folks. if you don’t like the line-up, don’t go! stop whingeing about it.
“bah fucking humbug, folks. if you don’t like the line-up, don’t go! stop whingeing about it.”
What part of comment board don’t you understand, girl?
fair point 🙂
I don’t like the lineup, I dont like the price so I won’t go. I havent gone in 3 years since the areshole/media set took over. I’ll just to lots of other festivals that would scare the shit out of the average EP/oxygen goer and save myself a few hundred euro.
€272? Mine came out at €246. I paid with a laser card, do they charge more for credit card transactions than laser card or am I just missing some fine print?
€246 it is. Don’t know where you pulled that €272 figure from!
They changed it. It was advertised as e240 +12.5% service charge. Still a fucking rip off.
I think it’s €240 including the service charge. Two years ago it was €175, but that was in the heady days before VAT on tickets.
Also, while we’re talking about it, are they going to overfill the place like they did last year? We were told by a Garda on the way down that they sold WAY more tickets than they advertised and that’s why the traffic was so bad on the Friday night (it took us seven hours from Dublin City Centre to get to the car park)
He said they’d sold 70,000. It did seem like about twice as many people as the previous year alright, even with the extra camping space and bigger site.
The traffic on Friday was a nightmare. If I remember correctly it was blamed on a minor accident at the time.
Re:Dear Nialler9,
Please fix it so that Billy Bragg is playing.
Thnx.
– ye Nialler get the finger out
& my ticket was only €240 wats all this 272 bullshit?
272 figure comes from the original website which stated
tickets €240, subject to phone and internet service charge/booking fee of 12.5% (~€30) and agents fee €2.50) – 240 + 30 + 2.50 = ~€272
its since be changed to €6.50 there was such uproar/discussion/bad vibes on the EP forum and blogs like this!
its since be changed to €6.50 there was such uproar/discussion/bad vibes on the EP forum and blogs like this!
Are they stupid?
Do these people have any common sense?
Of course there was going to be uproar about it!
I am still trying to fathom the line up. Either the booking people are geniuses or were lazy. It kind of lacks the Wham! Bam! big names of previous years like Bjork and Arcade Fire etc but there are some gems.
Nevertheless I am VERY miffed at the price increase. 20% in one year?! I know live music and especially festivals are lucrative but I am finding this blatant profiteering, an unfortunate addition to the aptly termed Rip-off Ireland. A part of me hopes that it does not sell out. The same part of me finds it galling that they would do such a thing in a year of pronounced economic uncertainty.
I think I am going to hold out buying a ticket yet. I am however going to Bestival. At least they are kind enough for approximately 175-180 euro (once the price for the Picnic many a moon ago) you even get the ferry from Southampton to the Isle of Wight included. We don’t get a bus from Dublin for that.
Go figure.
It’s not 20%, they were €220 last year weren’t they?
I agree about the selling out bit though, it was way too packed last year, the atmosphere was far more frantic than the previous year.
I really doubt they sold more than twice the amount of tickets advertised! plenty of people snuck in, as for bitchin about the cost compared to festivals in other countries, while we’re at it shouldn’t we bitch about the price of bread, milk, tobacco, booze etc. in this country?! yes, festivals are more expensive here, everything is! it’d make more sense to giv out about d government than d festival organisers, like d huge price difference between 20 cigs 10 years ago and today, who’s 2 blame 4 that, mr benson and mr hedges? Hardly, they’re prob dead by now.. sure 20euro’s a bit of an increase, but lik, are ye completely ignorin the fact that Life festival was 100euro last year, and is 150euro this year? Now, THAT’S somethin 2 complain about!
Well the price of a packet of cigarettes is something different. The price goes up as a supposed deterence against smoking and I support that.
However I think it is more to do with not the government but a nation who have become inebriated by wealth over the last decade or so who may grumble at prices going up but pay it anyway. The sellers know this very well and take advantage of it. There is a lack of protest at price increases in this country, well strong and credible ones. This needs to be organized. We have become a Spar generation. People who pay the premium and grumble but do it anyway.
However the government i some respects have to take some issue. They need increased competition from legal services to broadband but they are not doing it.
I have decided not to go to the Picnic in protest and hopeit does not sell out and maybe if other people take a similar line and boycott things a bit more and gigs then it will make the planners think and knock them off their perch of complacency. Maybe going to buy your ticket in a Ticketmaster vendor and not online thus bypassing the extortionate visa charge etc (if you want to go to a concert that is) will make them think.
OK, that is my rant for today.
