Marina and the Diamonds
Neon Gold Records had already got my attention by releasing my number two tune of the year, so it’s with great pleasure to say that their second release is also a bit of a stonker, albeit a different kind of stonk.
It’s by Marina and The Diamonds, a Kate Bush-esque character from Wales via Ancient Greece. Herself and Florence Welch should get together on a duet. This is cranium-magnetising pop produced by Liam Howe (of Sneaker Pimps). The 7″ is available from Pure Groove and features “Obsessions” b/w “Mowgli’s”. It’s nice every now and again to get a reminder why you do this and Marina and the Diamonds is a damn good one today.
