A chance to revisit the Irish/English shoegaze band’s classic 1991 record Loveless, ahead of their upcoming 3Arena show and on one of the city’s best soundsystems.
My Bloody Valentine – Loveless (1991)
Tuesday 28th and Wednesday October 29th at The Big Romance

The definitive shoegaze classic album that redefined what a rock record could be arrived after an expensive elongated recording process that included 16 engineers , 19 studios and very nearly bankrupted Creation Records boss Alan McGee before he heard a note.
Along with a LOUD playback of the album, myself and Aoife Barry will be offering the context and insight that will answer questions like how Kevin Shields’ perfectionism lead him to both his Glide Guitar technique and a near mental breakdown. Why the album was recorded in mono? Why do the vocals sound like that? Loveless is the definition of a modern classic.

Join Niall with Aoife Barry for a discussion about the record, and a playback of the album on vinyl , on The Big Romance’s wonderfully plush and clear Toby Hatchett soundsystem. We will chat about the record’s context, craft, production, lyrics and importance of this modern classic for a live Nialler9 Podcast episode.

The host of the Nialler9 Podcast in conjunction with The Big Romance present the Listen Closely series of listening parties, a night featuring a focus album from an artist we love on the last Wednesday of the month.
