Nine of the best tracks of the last seven days featuring key cuts from Wild Nothing, Bombay Bicycle Club, Crystal Fighters, Onra, R.S.A.G and more.

  1. Crystal Fighters – ‘Summer’
A bonkers single from the Spanish band. It sounds like smashing songs together in a wind tunnel or Yeasayer if they really did take lots of drugs. You can download it for free from the band.
  2. Wild Nothing – ‘Chinatown’
Instant happiness from Virginia’s Wild Nothing. Album Gemini comes recommended from me – lo-fi, shoegazey, acid-washed stuff.
  3. M.I.A. – ‘XXXO’ feat Jay-Z
As much as Maya Arulpragasam’s “look at me, i’m spouting off” publicity campaign is getting on my tits, this tune remains a constant that reminds me, despite the silly album title, the gingercide video and the NY Times “I said / she said” bullshit, that she might actually produce a good third album. Here Jay-Z provides a short verse that gives you an excuse to listen on repeat once again. Another track debuted last night ‘Steppin’ Up’ with what must a Rusko’s production.
M.I.A. featuring Jay-Z – XXXO (Remix) by Hypetrak
  4. Battles – ‘The Line’
The first track from the better-than-it-should-be soundtrack to Twilight: Eclipse on the chart. A new song from Battles, with vocals.
  5. Monarchy – ‘Love Get Out Of My Way’ (Holy Ghost! remix)
Discotastic remix and one of my favourites of the year from Holy Ghost”. More Monarchy.
  6. R.S.A.G. – ‘The Roamer’
R.S.A.G’s album Be It Right Or Wrong extends the template of his sound by taking it back old school with nods to blues and rockabilly. ‘The Roamer’
is the first single from the album which is out today and is still getting repeated plays.
  7. Enemies – ‘Nag Champa’
Enemies release their debut today with a launch gig tonight upstairs in Whelan’s. More on them here. Stream the album here.
  8. Bombay Bicycle Club – ‘How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep’
Brilliant track from the London-based band and the second song from that Vampire soundtrack.
  9. Onra – ‘High Hopes’ featuring Reggie B
This song is summer condensed to 4 minutes. From Onra’s brilliant new album long Distance released on All City.
