nialler9’s Ridiculously Long Gig Calendar

Taken from my Myspace page, which is the only reliable gig calendar tool I have. These are all the shows I’m planning to go to until early June and it’s still probably missing a few.

Gig Calendar

1. Yo, SEBP in razzmatazz!that place is off the chain…sunset rubdown are playing the nite after animal collective in whelans, that would be worth a look.

2. God you’re so indie it hurts 🙂
Cant understand what the fuss about Battles is. Never could.
You’re missing out on Red Snapper in the Sugar Club on Sunday April 13th. Excellent reformed band who I had the pleasure of seeing at the Bloc Weekend in Eng-ger-land recently. Still have the power to amaze. Their drummer is the core of their groove I think, he just lays down this looping beat and the others work around it, I was transfixed by his skills.
(Incidentally I wasnt mad impressed with the Kode9/Spaceape performance at the Bloc either… bit pedestrian and repetitive in places)
And of course the kingpin Ricardo Villalobos is playing in the Tivoli on the Sunday of the May Bank Holiday weekend. I reckon that’ll be lots of fun. The crowd will be an interesting mix of bleedinmadoutofits who saw him in Ibeeefa last summer, minimal nerds in t-shirts and square glasses standing around the decks all night, fashionistas who read about him in whatever glossy magazine featured him last, and general pissheads caning it because they have an extra day off at the weekend. I dont want to sound like a mouthpiece for Remedy here (and if I am, would they please fire a free pass my way??) but I think that is one not to miss.
Oh the music that night might be worth checking out too. 🙂

3.
God you’re so indie it hurts
Red Snapper I would have dismissed out of hand just because it’s a nostalgia buzz. Maybe a mistake so.

I also forgot Jamie Lidell – 3rd May.

4. On strong recommendations from everyone who saw them at ATP last year – gotta try catch Chromehoof this Friday in Whelans before booting it up to the Vaults for Kode 9 / Various Productions gig…

5. oOOoH! Just spotted the Chromatics are playing on April 24th in Andrews Lane Theatre, has anyone been to any gigs there since it opened back up? What’s it like?

Not forgetting Acid Mothers Temple on the 29th in Whelans,,, gah! so much stuff 😀

6. ah I see,,, yeh the Crystal Castles gig is on there that week too 🙂 more venues, can’t be a bad thing I reckon as I really haven’t taken to the Button Factory or this upstairs in Whelans malarchy!

7. Ooh, and as a reply to x, Gui Boratto is on the same night as Villalobos, and I for one will be attending the former. His Chromophobia release was one of the best albums of any genre of 2007. By the by, unless I have got something very wrong, it seems that Remedy are running both the Boratto and Villalobos nights? Can anyone confirm this, as it makes absolutely no sense to me

8. i passed andrew’s lane the other day
outside looks finished but inside it’s a mess, just a building site!
i sh&t u not!
hope they get the bloody thing done in time for those end of april gigs!

9. Why are SEBP playing at Ginglik? Surely they could play a better venue?
Know nothing about the venue, do tell…

Well that’s just it, nobody i know knows anything about the venue. I’m sure it’s fine but i was just presuming that SEBP would play somewhere more established.

10. Damon & Naomi from galaxie 500 are playing 25 of june. galaxie 500 are top notch, not sure about the solo stuff
and well before that Magik Markers on 21 April. Deerhunter are playing again and so is their singers side project, atlas sounds not sure of dates but both are around the same time as the almight HEALTH.

11. The funny thing is I have 18 gigs in the same period and only four are the same. Although I think I may stump up for Why?.

Point being, there is amazing choice out there.

12. leigh – what’s wrong with islington?
i lived and worked around there for a while and loved it (the area as opposed to the work)
the angel area and upper st has some wicked little cafes and restaurants, some cool music shops and indie cinemas and some deadly bars and one off shops
dublin has nowhere to compare with that
though admittedly it does get a bit ‘walkabout’ish as you head towards highbury & islington station

13. i’ve found it the opposite experience to be honest – it’s been rather nasty-ish to me, but right now the fact that i was chased for my life down the road by crack heads in wycombe a few minutes ago may cloud my judgement of this retched place even further
