Jason Pierce marks 20 years since the first acoustic shows with a string quartet, gospel singers and guitarist Tony Foster, on Wednesday, March 31st, 2027.
Spiritualized are returning to Dublin for a rare Acoustic Mainlines show at the National Concert Hall on Wednesday, March 31st, 2027. It’s promoted by Foggy Notions, and tickets are €56 including booking fee, on general sale this Friday, October 16th at 10am.
The show marks 20 years since the band’s first acoustic performances. Those shows came about around the time of the Songs In A&E album, when Jason Pierce, who goes by J Spaceman, was recovering from a serious illness. He and guitarist Tony Foster played Daniel Johnston covers, ‘Devil Town’, ‘Funeral Home’ and ‘True Love Will Find You In The End’, at a Johnston show at the Barbican. Pierce has said it was “small, and it was beautiful”. The pair then added strings and a choir, and the idea grew into the Acoustic Mainline shows.
Those shows drew on songs from across Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized and included covers, and the same mix is promised this time. Pierce will be joined by a string quartet, gospel singers and Foster throughout.
Spiritualized have also played Dublin recently with a full performance of Pure Phase.
