The Electric Picnic mystery Sunday headliner is…The Script
As teased and socials earlier today, and confirmed via the website’s updated poster (h/t John), Electric Picnic has confirmed the previously blurred out headliner under the Killers is The Script.
It will be the band’s first live show in Ireland since the passing of Mark Sheehan on April 14th this year.
While there was speculation that the artist blurred on the poster was anyone from a range of artists – Blur, Ava Max, Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers, Boygenius, – the poster on the website today confirms the act as The Script.
As you can see from the image compare above, Lewis Capaldi was also scheduled originally to play but cancelled due to mental health issues, and was replaced by Paolo Nutini.
The initial announcement of the main bulk of the acts was made on April 21st, a week after the passing of Mark Sheehan. So it tracks perhaps, that The Script were already booked but were pulled from the announcement and replaced with a blurred logo, to allow the band time to grieve and to at a later date, consider whether they would play their first gig without Mark Sheehan, which today’s news seems to confirm.
In terms of the blurred logo, that suggests its outline that was a canard that lead people to decode it from its blurred state. It was perhaps designed to throw people off the scent in the interim.
Menawhile, the lineups for the many stages continue to fill out.
