Vek reminds me of that time in 2005 when music bloggers were starting to exist (including me), everyone posted the latest Phones remix because it was so good and the M.I.A/Diplo mixtape. Let’s take a trip back shall we?

Last I heard of him was when he was taken off the list of acts for the 2006 Electric Picnic and then just disappeared from the list rather quietly. It’s a pretty tragic loss as his record is amazing and the Whelans show in late 2005 was my gig of the year by a long shot if I’m remembering correctly.

My guess is he simply got bored of the music business and even if he has recorded a follow up to We Are Sound, we’ll never get to hear it as he’d rather just piss about and work a real job!
i remember seein this vid in 2005 and thinkin it was the best thing ever… still think its one of the best music vids of that time.

What an odd and happy coincidence, I’ve been thinking about Tom Vek a lot recently and it helped me revive some good memories from way back then.

It really is quite sad. His gig in Whelans will always be one of my favourite Whelans gigs to date.. Such a pity really as the two “new” songs he posted on his myspace about a year and a half ago are absolutely brilliant. Music Television was also a brilliant track!
found an old single of his a few months ago (You Set the Fire in Me CC) and was wondering the same thing! Pity he hasn’t done anything in the last few years. Another one bites the dust…
