Chris Ward’s debut album as Tropics, Parodia Flare was full of lush and washy electronic landscapes, so much so that it felt obfuscated by the ambiance it persisted with. ‘Popup Cinema’, from a new EP on Svetlana Industries in November (home to Nightwave), is a more immediate and live cut, lead by a simple piano and direct vocal line, which progresses with some finger-clicking beats and some R&B exaltations.
