Homegrown is a short documentary looking at the changing landscape of Irish music, through its informality and locality, challenges and positives, filtered through the lens of nights like Ruby Sessions, new artists like Orla Gartland and RTE Radio presenter Rick O’Shea.
The documentary was directed by Cathal Flaherty and Produced by Ciaran O’Brien, with camera work by both throughout. It stars RTE’s Rick O’Shea, Ruby Session’s Conor Donovan and Irish musician Orla Gartland along with exclusive footage of Hermitage Green in The Academy, Join Me In The Pines in The Unitarian Church and Niall Thomas at the Ruby Sessions.

Niall Byrne is the founder of the most-influential Irish music site Nialler9, where he has been writing about music since 2005.
