Beth Gibbons

Floating On A Moment

Portishead singer Beth Gibbons will release a debut solo album on Domino Records called Lives Outgrown on Friday 17th May and it is preceded by a gorgeous new psychedelic pastoral folk song ‘Floating On A Moment’

The album features 10 tracks recorded over a period of 10 years, the album was produced by James Ford and Beth Gibbons with additional production by Lee Harris (Talk Talk).

Lives Outgrown is, by some measure, Beth’s most personal work to date, the result of a period of sustained reflection and change — “lots of goodbyes,” in Beth’s words. Farewells to family, to friends, even to her former self. These are songs from the mid-course of life, when looking ahead no longer yields what it used to, and looking back has a sudden, sharper focus.

Bikini Body

Mr Tinnitus

More cowbell!

Bright and buzzing disco punk-funk from the Edinburgh band Bikini Body, released on Optimo’s new sublabel Optimo Music Rocks!

F3miii

LOSTWITHOUTMARIA

Synthy smooth pop vibes here from Dublin vocalist and producer F3miii. ‘LostWithoutMaria’ apparently got a Timbaland cosign on a livestream hosted by the renowned producer.

LOSTWITHOUTMARIA is a track about a feeling lost without something or someone. In my case it was about a person, so that’s where I went. I felt lost without someone who was special to me. I had a bit of an 80’s phase where I’d listen to Micheal Jackson and other classic records. So I drew inspiration from that by adding my own alternative spin to it by making it more upbeat and using synths and sounds that you wouldn’t typically hear on an 80’s beat.”

4.

Paranoid London, Mutado Pintado

The Motion

Acidy dance pulses from the London electro duo of Gerardo Delgado and Quinn Whalley with regular vocal collaborator Mutado Pintado, also of Warmduscher.

Bit of a Chemical Brothers vibe to this one. its from their new album Arseholes, Liars, and Electronic Pioneers.

5.

Curtisy

Lower Your Hopes

Dublin rapper Curtisy is set to drop his debut album What Was The Question? on May 3rd, which is good news as he’s been dropping great tracks since 2021.

The album revolves around themes of addiction, love, hardship and growing up in Dublin, all through the unique lens of Curtisy that is sure to have you both laughing and crying in equal measure.

‘Lower Your Hopes’ feeds into the theme:

“The track’s a mix of what I’ve seen, heard and experienced in the estate. A lot of doubt, a lot of messing, but there’s a lot of wisdom and strong bonds to collect around here too We wanted to capture the energy of where I’m from and distill the type of youngfella the area breeds. I also wanted to express the fact that I’m not the average Jobstown kid; I’ve always had an interest in art and that wasn’t always understood by my peers.”

The album will be released on vinyl too and comes with a Spicebag print.

6.

Yard Act, Katy J Pearson

When The Laughter Stops

I’ve done a 180 on Leeds band Yard Act recently as their post-debut tunes have dropped the overtly-verbose performative style in favour of brash and bold indie bops like this one, like ‘Dream Job’ before it – it prioritises fun and melody.

The band play Vicar Street in March.

Their second album Where My Utopia? is out March 1st on Island Records.

7.

John Glacier, EarthEater

Money Shows

The first release from London experimental rapper, producer, and poet John Glacier on Young is this nebulous guitar-chugging experimental rap amble.

The  Like a Ribbon  EP featuring production from Flume, Vegyn, and Kwes Darko (who produced this one) is out February 23rd.

This Is The Kit

Sensations In The Dark

Kate Stables and This Is The Kit covering a Gruff Rhys song from his 2011 album Hotel Shampoo? Why not.

Rhys produced the band’s last album Careful Of Your Keepers.

“We were about to do a joint tour in the States, and a friend who cuts records suggested we do a split single, each of us playing a song by the other person. This is the song I chose from Gruff’s overwhelmingly excellent repertoire.”

9.

Mount Kimbie

Fishbrain

Having expanded to a four-piece from Dom Maker and Kai Campos to include live members Andrea Balency-Béarn and Marc Pel, Mount Kimbie herald a new album The Sunset Violent, due April 5th on Warp.

After recent track ‘Dumb Guitar’, ‘Fishbrain’ marks the follow-up to 2017’s Love What Survives (not counting the interstitial split albums MK3.5: Die Cuts | City Planning made by Dom and Kai under the name.

The track moves from Arthur Russell-esque intro to a scuzzy fuzz live band track.

King Krule also features on the album with the track ‘Boxing’, which was made available for a limited time late last year.

10.

Lil Yachty

A Cold Sunday

These are the kind of tunes we need when it’s rainy and cold outside. Yachty has returned to making fine rap tunes after last year’s Let’s Start Here album of psychedelic-rock.

He’s also collaborated with Faye Webster who he went to school with in Atlanta.

Webster has an autotuney new one too.
