The London-based international four-piece Los Bitchos just released Talkie Talkie, their latest album of instrumental guitar and rock music on City Slang in August.
The pan-continental band feature players from Uruguay, Australia, London and Sweden and their music is a similar mish-mash of global influences drawing on the Colombian genre of cumbia Turkish rock, Latin music, punk and pop, all without vocals.
Los Bitchos play Dublin’s Button Factory on October 20th with support from Faux Real, and they shared 10 songs they are loving on their current tour, ahead of their arrival in Ireland this month.
1.
Sabrina Carpenter – Espresso
I have to admit I jumped on this song a little later than most but three is no denying how good this song is. The vocal production is smooth, seductive and delicious. (Serra)
2.
Crush – Jellyhead
The original album version of this song was my total jam on our van rides. It’s quite pop rock compared to the dance version I grew up with and I love the weird synth line that goes through the song. Super uplifting. (Serra)
3.
The Mamas and the Papas – Spanish Harlem
The backing harmonies of Cass Elliot and Michelle Phillips on this song are spine tinglingly incredible. I love the hard panning of the musical elements on the right and the left, it’s not really something I hear a lot in current music but it gives the most wonderful prominence to the main vocal. (Serra)
4.
Karen Marks – Cold Cafe
It’s a song I discovered a few years ago, a friend of mine left me loads of vinyls before she moved out and instantly fell in love with the song. I’m back to listening to it this days, super catchy and a bit melancholic, perfect for this weather. (Agustina)
5.
Milli Vanilli – Girl I’m Gonna Miss You
I love this song, I love to walk dance to it, it’s my new obsession and I can’t stop listening to it. (Agustina)
[ed’s note: The band infamously didn’t sing on any of their records]6.
Soda Stereo – Trátame Suavemente
I’ve loved this song since I’m a teenager. Every time I listen to it I feel so nostalgic about being young back in Uruguay. We were in Mexico recently and they were playing this band at a coffee shop so I got back to listening to it the same day! It is beautiful. Production is 10/10 (Agustina)
7.
Son Rompe Pera – Chata (feat. Macha)
Someone recommended this band to me who I was chatting with before a show. The marimbas are so good, there is an awesome KEXP at home video and they’re just having such a good time. (Nic)
8.
Art School Girlfriend – Bending Back
You can get so lost in this music, it’s so immersive. Perfect for long drives when you feel far from home. (Nic)
9.
Leon Bridges – Panther City
I’ve been rinsing this song in the past few days on tour, such a lovely feel good yet nostalgic tune. Hot off the press on his new record and I love it! (Josefine)
10.
Nao vs A.K. Paul – So Good
Our producer Oli Barton-Wood played us this song whilst we were working with him and it has made it onto my regular rotation playlist since. For fans of Jai Paul (A.K Paul’s brother). (Josefine)
