10 tracks The Night Institute’s Timmy Stewart & Jordan Nocturne love right now

The Belfast club and electronic community The Night Institute celebrates 10 years with a gig down south at Dublin’s audiophile friendly Hang Dai Chinese with Board Of Works this Saturday May 3rd.

Below, two of The Night Institute dons Timmy Stewart and Jordan Nocturne share their current top 5 tunes ahead of the party this weekend.

Timmy Stewart’s selection

1.

JJ Selects – Fierer

Fierer

Such a great example of a piece of music that does absolutely everything with a less is more approach.

First heard played by David Holmes when we shared a booth together earlier this year, it’s detonated everywhere I’ve played it since.

Also proof that it’s good for DJs to share.

2.

Deep Division – Airflow (Protocol Remix)

Airflow (Protocol Remix)

Superb remix by Belfast duo Protocol of Belfast artist Deep Division on Simon Sheldon’s Belfast label The Freebooter Lounge. Properly hypnotic due to that killer bass line. It’s always good to shop local!

3.

Soundstream – Show Off

Soundstream - Show Off

King of the cut up, Sound Stream flexing once again, why he’s one of the best in the business at machine made soul.

4.

Primal Scream – Circus of Life (A JD Twitch Remix)

Circus of Life (A JD Twitch Remix)

JD Twitch of Optimo getting to grips with the latest Primal Scream material, results in dark trippy house music with twists and turns for days. Best heard in the dark!

5.

Silueta Pálida – El paso del tiempo (versión remezclada)

Silueta Pálida - El paso del tiempo (versión remezclada)

Coming over like a psychedelic cover of The Cure’s Love Song but possibly made in and around the same time, this melancholy pop meets dance proto 80s weapon was my personal favourite on from Dark Entries Mexican Tecno (no typo) Pop 1980-89 compilation.

6.

Josh Ludlow – Vikram

Josh Ludlow - Vikram (Edit) [Stereo Ferment]

When a Josh Ludlow or Make a Dance promo lands in your inbox, you check it. Not only is he a friend of mine but he’s one of the most consistent producers in Europe right now. I’m proud to have released his debut solo EP on my Nocturne label. Once again, Josh Ludlow – take a bow.

7.

Viper Patrol – Stickem

Viper Patrol is another friend of The Night Institute. A mysterious Belfast-based artist who has made waves under various monikers in the past continues to push the boundaries that stands out in the sea of contemporary chug.

8.

Rigopolar – Need You

Need You

This isn’t a new track, but somehow I ended up stumbling across it when preparing for a party we threw at the Deers Head in Belfast. It’s almost a decade old, and I’m not sure I played it a huge amount the first time round but it’s been a mainstay on my USB since Christmas.

9.

Eitan Reiter – Pump Up The Jam (Club Mix)

Eitan Reiter - Pump Up The Jam (Club Mix)

If you’re unashamed of a guilty pleasure, is it still guilty? Yes it’s a bit cheesy… but a top five of my coolest new finds might feel a tad disingenuous. I stumbled across this version of Pump up the Jam on a video of my friend Bakke, resident at Space in Miami playing it. It’s probably the best rework I’ve heard of it, and it shifts the night into the next gear.

10.

Omar S – Can’t Get

Omar S – Can't Get

New-ish Omar S is absolute bliss. Pass the e’s.
