I think its just “mehh?” Agree with Catherine that the samples are much more diverse, but otherwise, its just the same old Girl Talk, twas hoping for something much more diverse and computer-driven experimental. Instead, it was much predictable stuff.
Piad 8.88 for it. Not too impressed thus far. Watered down Nightripper. That album brought something new to the table, this almost feels like b-sides. Sorry Mr Girl Talk 🙁
It reminds me a bit of that second Go! team album – by no means poor but really just more of the same and lacking the novelty that made the breakthrough so exciting. Which I suppose is to be expected – again, like the the Go! Team, there’s not really a whole lot of tinkering that can be done with this sound before it begins to lose it’s identity.
Yeh only one listen so far, but I feel like saying “Haven’t I heard this before?”
It’s inevitable really with stuff that is so exciting on first listen that the second chapter loses its uniqueness and sounds like a carbon copy of what came before it.
I will give it loads more spins anyway before i make up my mind.

I don’t see how you could expect anything different from Mr. Gillis. I actually like it more than Night Ripper, I think. More consistent with excellence. My favorite part about the entire album and his work as a whole, is that you can sit down and enjoy listening to the intricacies, or you can get up and dance with your friends, both being the correct answer for how to enjoy his music.

I’ve never heard of Girl Talk before I saw this blog post, downloaded the album for nothing to check it out, utterly love it. As someone who tries this sort of stuff myself (badly) I get a great kick out of hearing it done properly. Don’t see why this album couldn’t kick of commercially.
Gonna buy the back catalogue as soon as funds allow. Judging by the comments I’ll like the previous stuff more than this..?

I very much liked it, but I hadn’t heard Night Listener previously, so hadn’t a yardstick to measure it up against.
Couple of points I really liked:
Groove Is in the Heart mixed with Lithium, haha fantastic
the snippets of Carole King’s ooh baby from It’s Too Late
Jailbreak 🙂
A point I disliked:
the bit with George Harrison’s Set On You and the beat in the background, felt it was getting a little bit too Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers at times…
But all in all, enjoyed it very much, cheers for the heads up on the download, Niall!
