The Dublin psych-rock duo Unique Freaks’ new album Enjoyment Planted is to be released on September 19th on their own Gelatinous Records label.
The band’s sound has been expanding from their core psych-rock garage vibe lately with new single ‘Somebody Special’, in its full nine-minute form is a rolling alternative rock and vocal vista.
And indeed, they say the new album is “a psychedelic pop experiment which features 12 whimsical, vulnerable and bizarre songs.”
Previous single ‘Becoming You, Becoming Me‘ also features on the followup to 2024’s Beaming A Moment’s Reflection, one of my Irish albums of 2024, and still under-rated if you’re asking.
Thee Unique Freaks also ave Kickstarter campaign to help with the physical release of Enjoyment Planted which will help cover the manufacturing costs of the Vinyl, CD and tape editions of the album.
So pre-order the album on Kickstarter to also help fund it.
Unique Freaks bio
Unique Freaks have found themselves in a moment of blossoming, from their initial beginnings as an Industrial duo, then stumbling into their freak folk debut ‘Light Boat Drones’ and blasting into two complete psychedelic ear bleeders ‘Ponderous Fug’ & ‘Beaming A Moments Reflection’, both of which received critical acclaim. In the summer of 2024 the duo shifted directions, focusing on formulating shorter more concise songs which resulted in the ‘Glowing Friends’ EP, their first release as Unique Freaks. All this sonic shifting has finally jettisoned them into their latest project, A complete boiling pot of everything the Freaks have ingested, sonically, orally, visually, you name it. Though the new material takes on a POP approach in its production, the Freaks whimsical, and often vulnerable personalities bleed through, at times showing bare bone.
Throughout their time as Thee U.F.O the Freaks were seen playing live shows with the likes of Godcaster, Jim Jones All Stars, Meatbodies, Acid Mothers Temple, Cardinals, Search Results and many more national & international acts; as well as securing a spot at All Together Now 2023.
In September 2024 the duo debuted a new live line-up featuring two drummers and a psychedelic light show, They intend on making their live shows more overwhelming and bizarre.
