The Irish producer and the Iranian-Canadian duo return to Planet Mu on Friday October 16th, with Armand Hammer, Richie Culver and Abbas Zahedi among the guests.

Eomac and Saint Abdullah have announced their fifth album together. When The Sandbox Has No Edge is out on Friday October 16th via Planet Mu.

The partnership pairs Ian McDonnell, the Irish producer who is also one half of Lakker, with brothers Mohammad and Mehdi Mehrabani-Yeganeh, the Iranian-Canadian duo who record as Saint Abdullah. They have been working together at a distance for years now, most recently on 2023’as Chasing Stateless.

This one is rooted in hip hop, though the guest list is rich beyond one genre.

  • Abbas Zahedi, Richie Culver and Armand Hammer on vocals and poetry
  • Lester St. Louis on cello
  • Che Chen of 75 Dollar Bill on guitar
  • Seraphim contributing textures and sound design across the record

The lead single is ‘Cyphers Become Sifr’ featuring Abbas Zahedi, with Zahedi’s poetry rhyming in English and Farsi over a garage-inspired blazed bass production.

Saint Abdullah & Eomac - Cyphers Become Sifr (ft. Abbas Zahedi)

The title is riffing on cypher and the Arabic word sifr, both which come from the same word, which originally meant “zero,” “empty,” or “nothing” in Arabic.

Irish listeners got a look at this project live recently. Eomac and Saint Abdullah played together at Open Ear on Sherkin Island over the June bank holiday weekend.

There’s no Irish date on the current run, which takes in:

  • Saturday September 12th, Unsafe and Sound, Vienna
  • Saturday October 17th, Volumens, Valencia
  • Friday October 23rd, Magasin 4, Brussels
  • Saturday October 24th, Dusty Cabinets, Amsterdam
  • Thursday November 19th, Bozar, Brussels (A Forbidden Distance with Rebecca Salvadori)

When The Sandbox Has No Edge is out on Friday October 16th via Planet Mu, and is available to pre-order on Bandcamp.
