Composer and producer Brian Dillon (Meltybrains? / The Line) is bringing his sound meditation sessions back to The Space Between this Friday October 30th, under a new name and with a slightly different format. The series, previously called Noise Meditations, is now Alltar: A Portal Through Sound.
Alltar is billed as an electronic soundbath designed by Dillon and guided by yoga teacher Máirín O’Grady. It’s an embodied listening experience built around feeling the vibrations of the sound, taking place in the studio’s darkness. A mix of electronic and organic sounds, played as a live soundscape, is paired with guided meditation to take the audience through what the organisers call a “somasensory voyage”.

The name is drawn from Irish. Alltar is an old word for “the other realm”, the space beyond the veil between worlds, while its opposite, ceantar, means being in your body or the material world. People would once be described as being in one state or the other on any given day, and the sessions play with that idea of moving from the physical to the ethereal.
