Brooklyn synth-pop trio Au Revoir Simone are playing in Whelans this Wednesday in support of their second album The Bird of Music which is out now. Its a more assured and layered piece of work than last year’s Verses of Comfort, Assurance and Salvation but is a lot more melancholic than I was expecting. At times, the music sounds a bit too much like generic Casio-pop especially on “Dark Halls” “Night Majestic” with their cheesy lyrics but they get away with it because the melodies are so damn sweet. “Fallen Snow”, “Lucky One” and “A Violent and Flammable World” demonstrate the maturity of their sound from Verses..
Judging by the video I posted a while ago, it should be a fun gig.

Hi Niall – did you head along? Hadn’t paid them too much attention before your blogging but went along anyways. Super gig, really enjoyed it. I’ve never seen three girls with so many machines!
Badly needed to hear something with a bit of an innovative/fresh edge after The Hold Steady the night before and this defo did the trick.

No, i didn’t Cahony. I’m quite busy at the moment so I decided not to head along. Glad it was good though. The Hold Steady aren’t for me I’m afraid.
