After the success of Annie Mac’s Before Midnight Club, early clubbing is something very much on the agenda along with later opening hours.
Early club nights are a culture shift from the 11pm start of most clubs due to late licences, venue costs, social patterns and tried and tested times, but as Annie Mac’s early club events have shown on a large scale, some people do want to be up in the morning, or be up with their kids early the next day (having had a baby recently I understand this now well).
So After Eight is a new addition to Dublin’s clubbing scene and aims to add to the early night clubbing vibe.
It is the brainchild of music nerd, dancer, visual artist and photographer. Giita Hammond, and happens monthly at basement Pawn Shop on Saturday evenings from 8pm to midnight with the first night happening Saturday April 13th with music by KEM and support by GIITA.
Every month will be featuring tunes from resident GIITA and a rotation of the best DJs in Dublin.
The music policy is electro, synth bangers, techno, Italo, house and disco, and you can hear a mix below..
More on Giita and After Eight.
Giita is half Icelandic and half Irish. She grew up in Reykjavik and moved to Dublin in 2000. She has always been a lover of music, gigs and dancing in clubs.
She went back to Reykjavík for one year with her family last year. She missed the clubs and the music scene in Dublin, so she started her own club night called After Eight, an early club night, with the best djs from Reykjavik playing every month.
One of her favourite Irish djs Bella Festa played an amazing set at After Eight in Reykjavik last year. Giita’s friends took over the night when she moved back to Dublin, the night is still thriving and has now been moved to a bigger venue.
After Eight is inspired by Annie Mac’s early club nights and 12 Sundays an early club night Giita used to go to in the old Bernard Shaw in Portobello where the djs from Ireland and abroad would play until midnight. You could dance your socks off, continue partying or go home to bed early.
Running After Eight inspired Giita to learn how to DJ. Her music tastes range from synth pop, electro, obscure bangers, italo disco, house and banging techno. She is a sucker for a cheesy keyboard and a dirty bass.
