The Ballina Fringe Festival takes place October 4th to 13th this year and features an interview and Q&A with  journalist Simon Price about his book about the band The Cure.

Price will be interviewed by Irish based journalist and documentary-maker Paul McDermott on Friday October 11th about his book Curepedia: An A – Z of The Cure at the Mary Robinson Centre in Ballina, Co Mayo.

Curepedia (published by White Rabbit) was ranked by The Guardian as one of their five best music books of 2023.

Other highlights at the Ballina Fringe festival include performances from Arborist (6 piece band); David Murphy (solo); Conor Walsh ‘Selected Piano Works’ film screening and Ivor Novello winning composer Brian Irvine’s Totally Made-Up Orchestra.

Conor Walsh: Selected Piano Works is a celebration of the pianist and composer who passed away in 2015. It’s a 67 minute film directed by Keith Walsh and celebrates the music of Conor, and the work he left behind when he died of a heart attack at the age of 36.

About Curepedia

In Curepedia, Price also goes beyond the music in this mammoth biography, offering a detailed analysis of The Cure’s wider cultural impact on British male mental health, toxic masculinity and stoicism in the face of emotional trauma with an essay on Boys Don’t Cry. Over the years, the song has become more than a pop song but an antidote to the “English stiff upper lip” mentality and an anthem for male sensitivity.
