Join Nialler9 and Andrea Cleary for a monthly series of listening parties.
Listen Closely is a chance to appreciate a modern classic album on the Big Romance’s warm Toby Hatchett soundsystem with a chat about the record on the night, whether you know it and love it, or if it’s brand new to you. We play the album and provide some background context and chat about it too.
This month’s Listening Event in The Big Romance:
Big Thief – Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You (2022)
The fifth album from the revered New York band released in 2022, is the most varied of their releases but it feels like the best distillation of their craft. There are 20 songs at 80 minutes long, and it luxuriates in its songwriting using folk, rock, country – wherever the song goes, while making time for smidgens of silly humour throughout, along with beautifully-realised brittle songwriting – finding beauty and meaning in small moments and things. Dragon New Warm Mountain… is the sound of a band in close quarters at the top of their creative peak, still unfurling with sparkling newness on every listen. We can’t wait to listen closely in The Big Romance on November 20th with you.
Tickets are limited to 40 for this intimate event.
Doors: 7pm.
Album playback and chat from 7.45pm
More Listen Closely events to be announced monthly.
