Body & Soul Festival have a film presentation called Éiru’s Threshold, which is a multi-disciplinary project drawing from Irish artists in the fields of theatre, dance, film, literature, fashion design and music.

The film, which will be premiering live at 8pm on Saturday 13th February, on the Body & Soul website, was produced during stage 5 lockdown with funding from the recent Live Performance Support Scheme.

The film was conceived by Body & Soul founder Avril Stanley and Creative Director Mary Hickson (Sounds From A Safe Harbour / Bon Iver) after a visit to Ballinlough Castle, Co. Westmeath where the festival normally takes place.

Taking some inspiration from the magical playground that is the land that surrounds the 17th Century country house, they were both keen to lean into the spirit of Celtic female energy and use the piece to amplify the space between things – the threshold.

The film features a re-interpretation of Henry Purcell’s aria Dido’s Lament, which is considered, in classical music, one of the most heart-wrenching portrayals of the passing into death. ‘Ériu’s Threshold‘, however, reimagines this aria through the Irish mythological goddess, Ériu. The lament was selected as one of the most powerful and timeless expressions of death and loss.  It appeals to us to “Remember” to remember people, remember where we come from, who we are..

Some of the people involved include director Mia Mullarkey, choreographer and dancer Robyn Byrne, poet Doireann Ní Ghriofa, textile designer Katie Hanlan, Tony-Award winning actress Marie Mullen, Eoin French (Talos), Elaine Howley (The Altered Hours), Kate Ellis (Crash Ensemble) and music producer Ross Dowling.

Premieres online 8pm, Saturday 13th February 2021

Admission is free, however advance sign-up is required at www.bodyandsoul.ie
