Dermot Kennedy pushes the envelope on new single 'For Island Fires And Family'

There are shades of early Bon Iver in the Dubliner’s new track.

Ireland’s most popular balladeer, Dermot Kennedy has shared a new single with us this morning.

‘For Island Fires And Family’ is a fair bit more understated than the likes of ‘Power Over Me’ or ‘Moments Passed’, with little in the way of anthemic chorus lines. Instead, the mostly quiet track has flashes of Bon Iver-esque vocal experimentation, with autotuned lines spiralling off into endless layers of reverb. A subtle moment of brilliance from the Dubliner.

The track was released as part of a compilation that includes all of Kennedy’s released material to date. The pop singer also promised that the “album is in the works” on his Facebook page.
