First Listen: Elkin - Who breaks up with someone on a 'Tuesday'?

On the new Elkin song, the electronic pop duo of Ellen O’Mahony and Carla Ryan team up with producer Lullahush once again for a tune about a damp squib of a breakup that happens on a ‘Tuesday’.

Didn’t think you’d end it on a Tuesday
Should’ve called it when you brought me to that café
You chose the chain, a neutral space,
For when you made your exit
Didn’t think you’d only get a water
Should’ve told me that before I made my order
Hadn’t even touched my cup, you said your piece,
I watched you leave

ELKIN - TUESDAY

‘Tuesday’ burns with the annoyance of being too kind to end a relationship that should have ended way before.

“Our last song was kinda deep. This song isn’t deep at all. Who breaks up with someone on a fucking Tuesday? Obviously a messy break-up is emotionally draining, but the drama of it all can be gas as you retell the stories to your girlies. But when the break-up is as boring and predictable as the relationship itself, you’re left thinking – ‘I didn’t even get a good story out of that’.”

Tuesday is Part 2 of ANTHOLOGY, a collection of singles from Elkin which are being released from February to August 2021.

Elkin’s song from February was called ‘Kismet’.

LYRICS:

All the times I faked it when we tried to celebrate it
I followed you for ages I just let you navigate it
Now I’m the one to feel the weight of all the years I wasted
Babe, it’s a fucking Tuesday

Didn’t think you’d end it on a Tuesday
Should’ve called it when you brought me to that café
You chose the chain, a neutral space,
For when you made your exit
Didn’t think you’d only get a water
Should’ve told me that before I made my order
Hadn’t even touched my cup, you said your piece,
I watched you leave

All the, all the, all the, faked it, faked it, faked it, babe, babe

All the times I faked it when we tried to celebrate it
I followed you for ages I just let you navigate it
Now I’m the one to feel the weight of all the years I wasted
Babe, it’s a fucking Tuesday

Didn’t think you’d end it on a Tuesday
If I were you I would’ve picked a Friday
I’d do it right, by candlelight,
Before I made my exit
‘Cause that way when you’d have to tell the story
You wouldn’t have to say “when she left me
I hadn’t even touched my cup, she said her piece
I watched her leave”

All the, all the, all the, faked it, faked it, faked it
All the times I faked it

All the times I faked it when we tried to celebrate it
I followed you for ages I just let you navigate it
Now I’m the one to feel the weight of all the years I wasted
Babe, it’s a fucking Tuesday

You stop, you turn in the doorway
I take a sip, I look away
Didn’t think you’d end it on a Tuesday
You never really gave a shit anyway
