You may have heard of this 8-piece New York band by now with people like Jim giving them some love in recent weeks. I just got an approved version of ’15 to 20′, the group’s infectiously funky break-out track so I have to share.
The track has got chiming background bells, an insistent and snaking bassline, top female vocals, some funky soul keys and a nod to the sound of local peers LCD Soundsystem in the track’s rhythm. A great NY tune.
The Phenomenal Handclap Band – 15 to 20
The self-titled album is out on 19th of June on Friendly Fire and they play Oxegen on Sunday July 12th (as am I, heh heh).

The tracks I’ve got from them are really really good fun. I played “15 to 20” while DJing on Sat night, and inevitably spent a while afterwards telling people who the song was by. People seemed to like the song, but they loved the band name.
Class- some thing very old school about it — a dash of ESG, a smidgen of Tom Tom Club, perhaps.
