Ireland’s only vinyl pressing plant is to close
Ireland’s only pressing plant Dublin Vinyl is going into liquidation, RTE reports.
The vinyl pressing plant based in Glasnevin in Dublin has been appointed provisional liquidators by the High Court.
The vinyl pressing plant, Pressing Matters Limited trading as Dublin Vinyl, has 22 full-time employees and 4 full-time contractor workers.
Founded in 2016, with a staff of two, Dublin Vinyl has supported the local Irish industry through 12″ vinyl pressings, and an ancillary business of printing vinyl for the major labels here. It had a subscription service and a direct to fan vinyl-pressing service before the pandemic, and the proceeding years of COVID-19, war in Ukraine, Brexit and loss of a major contract has meant the company has operated at a loss in 2022 and 2023.
Contracts worth €500,000 will be honoured before the company is wound up.
Counsel told the court that the company was making records for labels and artists including “Taylor Swift, whose fans we would not want to disappoint.”
Examinership was deemed not an option.
