Despite some silly comments and the revelation that one of the tracks of the year ‘The Wilhelm Scream’ is “heavily borrowed”, the self-titled James Blake album released last month is sure to be near the top of the list for 2011. Plus, let us remember he’s only a young lad.
Good news then, he plays Whelan’s this month on Tuesday March 29th. Tickets are just €15 plus fees on sale this Saturday. Get in. What I love about his music is that he falls between torchlighting piano troubadour and fascinating producer as these tracks demonstrate. I just hope he keeps the balance.

i love the album and pretty much everything hes done ,whelans is a great spot for him ,intimate enough for the bass to shake your fillings out 🙂 perfect for the vocals.
i do however find it very odd that he (on wilhelms scream) didnt credit the original songs writer which his father produced ,no credit on the album whatsoever! a bit rude……
also the remix comment is just ridiculous lol he has remixed peoples music!
His Dad was the songwriter of the song, not just the producer! Im sure he ran it by him
fair enough 😛
Yes, he’s only a young lad but I don’t think the album lives up to the five star reviews and levels of hype. It’s hit and miss; the auto-tune parts are cringe-worthy.
the hype is to be believed imho, hes created a rare thing…a completley original sounding album ,a perfect maraige between electronic and organic.
for me personally the fact he twist and contorts that glorious voice with effects and autotune is his biggest appeal.
I think it does. it wouldn’t be hyped if he wasn’t on a major. it’s a brilliant album in my opinion. I don’t know what people were expecting. have you heard his early EPs? They’re not exactly mainstream. as for autotune, that’s down to personal taste.
Also, best album ever to wake up to in the morning.
