Prominent Irish vocalists Jess Kav (BARQ, Hozier, Waterboys) and Senita Appiakorang (Shookrah, Bantum, Narolane) have a new duo together called Sister Fenix.

Sister Fenix are set to release their debut EP this year entitled In Water, the release was produced during lockdown withthe support from the Music Industry Stimulus Programme and with Thomas Donoghue (Villagers, Thumper) and Geoff Warner-Clayton (Gavin James) on production.

The duo say Sister Fenix is “music for taking up space and being your best self.”

The projects debut song arrives this week on Thursday March 9th but we’ve got a first listen to ‘Benefactor of Love’, a song that captures widescreen disco, R&B, soul in its DNA wrapped up in bright melodic vocals by the duo.

Sister Fenix Bio

During a walk up Killiney hill in 2020, Jess turned to Senita in an inspired moment and exclaimed “we should write a disco banger together!”. Over many months, Jess, Geoff, Senita and Thomas sent beats and lyrics back and forth, wrote, and collaborated over Zoom. Eventually coming together face to face a year later and realising they had made an albums worth of pop, alt-rnb and disco beauties. Sister Fenix will release a 3 track EP titled “In Water” embodying the journey of discovery and cleansing they found in the collaborative process over lockdown.

Sister Fenix live debut included high octane performances at Dublin Pride, Wild Roots and All Together Now, with their first 2023 show featuring in the Useless Project’s International Women’s Event March 8th in The Tara Buildings. With a sharp live band including Louis Younge (Toshin, Sky Atlas, Tolu Makay, Gemma Dunleavey) and Ryan McClelland (Sky Atlas, SIIGHTS), expect big performances, gorgeous songs, impeccable beats and exceptional vocals.
