The first song on King’s of Leon’s new album Only By The Night is brilliant. It sounds spooky and atmospheric, a gothic dystopia. Caleb mentions the last ‘2000 years chasing paganist whores‘ The rest of the album doesn’t live up to this but it’s still good. The other standout is ‘Use Somebody‘. Discuss.
You can download it @ Pretty Much Amazing. He also has the studio version of Kanye’s ‘Love Lockdown’. Dubious.

It sounds wonderfully roomy, that great feeling of hearing something played live in an arena or city scape but where you’re the only one there.
No links to full albums dudes. Keep it clean.
the first 3 (or 4 if you count “Use Somebody” which I personally don’t like that much) tracks are great, the rest is pretty borning TBH
but nr1 and 2 are totally awesome and different (also: awesome because they are different)
I am excited about this album, I had only heard Sex On Fire (love it) and now this track. It is pretty cool and easy to imagine live. I think, on the back of this album, The Kings Of Leon have the potential to become a killer stadium band, which is a rare thing these days, up ’til now they have just been might be’s.
Its a smashing tune alright. The album seems to have taken something of an interpol turn… a lot of the songs just sound like them.
Kings of Leon dont do bad albums!
Apparently the song ‘Closer’ portrays the life of a vampire.
as for the line ‘2000 years chasing paganist whores‘
im not sure if you have heard an unedited version or somthing but im pretty sure it says ‘2000 years of chasing taking its toll…’
please feel free to correct me if im wrong guys 🙂
I initially heard the album in a playback so I was guessing the lyrics.
Having seen the booklet, JMZC you are correct.
Closer is about a vampire who has been jilted by his vampire lover. He spends his years looking for her, during those years indulging in the reluctant pleasure of taking the blood of other women. Although his main aim is for him to be reunited with his only love, even if he does not requite his love. Understand the lyrics and interpret them for yourself. A gothic/fantasy theme to something that happens all the time. Peace all x.
She* does not requite his love. Hey typing errors happen in every day life too, but songs aren’t written about them.
