The independent Leitrim label Nyahh Records released a collection of recordings called A Collection of Songs in the Traditional & Sean-Nós Style last Friday on Bandcamp.
The label is run by run by Willie Stewart (Woven Skull) and the compilation is an 11-track collection of recordings inspired by collector Alan Lomax, and featuring two generations of singers across Ireland singing in the unaccompanied Sean-Nós style.
Some of the songs previously featured on albums, but most on the collection were recorded by the singers themselves on their phone at home or in pubs. Featuring on the compilation are Aoife Hammond, Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin, Ruth Clinton, Fionnuala Maxwell and more.
The album was chosen as The Guardian’s Folk album of the month, which is where I spotted it.
The album is available on CD and download, along with Liner Notes.
As a small little label (run by just me & my dog) I am floored w/ the amazing reaction to our latest release of Irish singers. Thank you so much to @juderogers for really getting to heart of this album in her @guardianmusic review. Folk Album of the Month!https://t.co/sDa0RNiZ9J pic.twitter.com/q6NW0u3Ru4
