Lucy McWilliams releases a confident summery solo debut on single ‘Runaway’ (premiere)

Having impressed immensely with her collaboration with another rising Irish artist Malaki on ‘Fair Play’ earlier this year, the Berlin-based Irish R&B / soul artist Lucy McWilliams is releasing her debut single ‘Runaway’ this week.

Premiered here as a first listen, ‘Runaway’ is a confident summery solo strike – a bossa nova-tinged R&B song with McWilliams extolling feelings of love, loss and yearning.

McWilliams says “when I wrote it, it began as a love and heartbreak song but I wanted to make it feel happy because so often you look back on relationships and only see the sadness but it’s so important to see the goodness that came out of everything, there’s always a positive”

“The track is really about wanting to run away to a life that you know isn’t there anymore. It’s not real but you can still hold those memories tightly even though you can never go back”
