New music: UZ, R.L. Jones, Poolside & Bleep’s 55-track electronic music guide
Every Friday, I pick out four new music picks from the best of music blogs worldwide as part of my Day & Night digital section. Follow Day & Night on Twitter or Facebook. The magazine is out today in print with every copy of the Irish Independent so pick it up to see my full section as well as the rest of the mag. My picks for the this week are…
UZ (or ︻╦╤─ ƱZ ─╤╦︻)
If it has a genre name (“trap”) then that indicates there’s enough people doing it to make a trend. UZ follows the likes of Lunice and Hudson Mohawke by releasing an EP called Trap Shit on Diplo’s Mad Decent which goes heavy on the 808 drum machine beats, hi-hats, rap samples, booming low end and eerie synths. Free download.
R.L. Jones
Formerly of promising Australian band The Middle East, Robin Jones’ solo material finds him in much more jubilant form with the serene indie guitar stylings of Everybody Wants To Be Your Friend.
Poolside
This LA-based duo call their music “daytime disco” and it’s a fitting label for the laid back electronic funk summer songs they’ve released thus far.
Bleep’s Electronic music guide
A 55-track digital compilation tracing the growth of electronic music from 1930 to 2010 featuring tracks from Afrika Bambaataa, Burial, Jean Michel Jarre, Brian Eno, J Dilla and Joey Beltram.
