Another great tune from High Violet. This time it’s track five – the core of the album where Matt Beringer has clearly got a really bad case of the fear – “I’m afraid of everyone” , “I don’t have the drugs to sort it out” & “Your voice is swallowing my soul”.
Cripes. And the music doesn’t alleviate the dark sentiment with the spooky backing vocals, the menacing troubling chord progression, the spindly guitar riff that appears and an all-consuming engulfing outro.

That’s 3 knock out tunes so far. It’s going to be a mega record.
Love the backing vocals on this one from Justin Vernon too. Great song.
I think the backing vocals is Sufjan Stevens but I couldn’t get a confirmation on it.
Sounds to me like Bon Iver. We’ll see when the album comes out on the liner notes.:D
Seems you were right, sir. *tips cap* Maybe Justin will pop up elsewhere. 😀
Deadly stuff! Great vocals, I’m really liking the short little electric guitar phrases too. Cannot wait for this album! I wonder will they be doing any non-festival shows in Ireland this year?
glourious as usual
Sounds bloody great. These guys are in the absolute prime of their career now, we just gotta sit back and savour…
For the last 6 months or so I’ve been assuming this National record would be a big disappointment and I’ve been gearing up for that, but after the three tracks we’ve heard so far I imagine people (both casual and hardcore fans) are going to be completely blown away just like they were with Boxer. Eeek! Part of me wants this to leak right now, and yet I’d really love for it to somehow survive until May 8th when we can all go out and buy the CD/vinyl. Seems unlikely though!
