Nealo & Uly go for a day out in the video for ‘You Can’t Go Home Again’

Nealo & Uly | You Can’t Go Home Again

With the release of Nealo’s debut album in Autumn on Diffusion Lab’s DFL label, the Clonsilla artist has dropped a new video for ‘You Can’t Go Home Again’, his collaboration with Uly and Adam Garrett from the album.

We said of the song that it “hits the beats of close ties, home, being away from it, friendship, and recounting an emigrant experience,” and the video keeps those themes of friendship and close cohorts with Nealo and Uly taking a day trip around Dublin, Wicklow and Westmeath – renting a boat, going up the mountains and having some pub grub.

The video was directed filmmaker, Bobby Zithelo who has recently documented Ireland’s relationship with race, identity and immigration with his film This Land and Up Next: An Irish Hip-Hop Documentary.

Says Zithelo:

“We wanted to focus heavily on themes of friendship while showcasing
Ireland – using it as a beautiful backdrop. The visuals showcase Nealo and Uly sharing an organic chemistry, something you couldn’t achieve on screen with actors. Each laugh is genuine and not forced. The idea although not explicit in the music video is about holding onto your loved ones.”

“You Can’t Go Home Again is about leaving. It’s a song about missing both a person that you love, and a city that you love. No one stands untouched by emigration. We have all left cities and friends behind, or have had friends leave in search of a better life, an adventure, or a future for themselves. This one is an ode to the people and cities that I had to leave behind, and that each time I left, I never felt like I was the same person after. Everything changes with the miles and years.”
