New Albums

Floating Points – CASCADE

Sam Sheperd returns to his default solo analogue electronic sound made after time writing a ballet score for his third collection of dancefloor-friendly music.

Gurriers – Come And See

Dublin noise-rockers release their debut album today on the No Filter label, and have a secret gig this evening in the city. The album features ‘Top Of The Bill‘, ‘Nausea’, ‘Sign Of The Times’ and ‘Approachable’.

“The album is a noisy, guitar driven odyssey of our disillusionment with the modern world”.

Nilüfer Yanya – My Method Actor

Third album from the UK-based songwriter after Painless and Miss Universe. Features the songs ‘Just a Western’, ‘Mutations’ and ‘Like I Say (I runaway)’. The album was made with her creative partner Wilma Archer.

Julie Dawson – Bottom Of The Pool

NewDad’s Julie Dawson releases solo album produced by Space Dimension Controller. The album central theme revolves around escapism, “reflecting Julie’s desire to create something entirely separate from her daily routine”.

Henry Earnest – Big Blue

Irish alternative producer releases debut solo album “written on the open road and recorded between Phisborough and inis oírr,” including on the 32 counties All Ireland tour and features contributions from Ev Carm, Passersby, Róisín berkeley, Isaac Jones, Banríon and more.

Deadletter – Hysterical Strength

Yorkshire six-piece post-punk band with a bit of a danceable vibe that take inspiration from The Fall, Gang Of Four and Talking Heads relaese their debut album. They play Dublin and Limerick this month.

Dora Jar – No Way to Relax When You Are on Fire

Interesting LA-based New York songwriter and alt-folk-pop artist. The list of producers include collaborators include George Daniel (The 1975, Charli XCX), and Rostam Batmanglij (Vampire Weekend, Clairo), Ralph Castelli (glaive) and Henry Kwapis (Dominic Fike, Dijon).

Of the title, Dora says “Being on fire can be an amazing feeling; I’m on fire. I’m so productive. I am confident. I’m hot shit. And then there’s also ‘I’m freaking out,’ like, I don’t know what to do with all of this action.”

John Spillane – Fíoruisce – The Legend of the Lough

A 2 hour folk opera album, composed by John Spillane, featuring Ríoghnach Connolly, Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin, Niamh Farrell, Nell Ní Chróinín, and more.

Fíoruisce – The Legend of the Lough is a three-act Gaelic folk opera. The work is an imagined re-Gaelicisation of the Victorian Cork fairytale Fior-usga collected by Thomas Crofton Croker in the 1800s and published in his book Fairy Legends and Traditions of the South of Ireland (1828). The story is a surreal tale culminating in a drowned kingdom, which as lore tells us, becomes The Lough in Cork city as we know it today. They say, you can see the tops of the underworld towers on a clear day and hear the music of their big party on Midsummer’s night.

Mermaid Chunky – slif slaf slof

Weirdo folk, house and psych-pop band from England on DFA Records.

Fousheé – pointy heights

The New Jersey Jamaican-American artist Fousheé makes soft glow indie R&B pop on RCA Records for her second record.

TR/ST – Performance

Producer/singer Robert Alfons’ neon-soaked late night electronic pop songs.

lullahush – An Todhchaí EP

lullahush’s EP is a sonic “what if?” posing the question of what Irish trad and electronic music could sound like together. The three tracks explore that push and pull with ‘An Caoineadh’ (The Crying), ‘An Grá’ (The Love) and ‘An Todhchaí’ (The Future), and you can hear the middle song today.

“I believe a holistic marriage of Traditional Irish Music and Contemporary Electronica can express a unique perspective on modern Irish identity. I want to create in an Irish context what has been created by the likes of Meitei (Japan), Lauten Der Scheele (Germany), Lucrezia Dalt (Columbia), Proc Fiskal (Scotland) and Debit (Mexico) — a passionate conversation between tradition and innovation that illuminates the past while looking to the future: respectful without being dogmatic; playful yet serious.”

Angie McMahon – Light Sides EP

Naarm/Melbourne-based singer and musician releases a new collection of dramatic rock and pop songs.

INNUENDO – on occasion EP

Dublin art-rock indie band’s new five-track release on Galway’s Blowtorch Records.

c o m t e. – s t a t i c

Dublin born musician and artist J. Cowhie’s latest three-track release of ambient electronic music.
