Here’s a rundown of new releases on DSPs and physical releases in record shops this week.

Nialler9 keeps a rolling list of Irish album releases here.

New Albums

Fontaines D.C. – Romance

The fourth album from the Dublin band takes a turn to more streamlined stadium rock without losing their Whipping Boy DNA. The nu-metal influence is certainly overstated, but Romance feels like the start of a new chapter after the triptych of the first three albums. James Ford produced, it’s their debut on XL Recordings. It’s a fine record.

Conor Deegan says, “We’ve always had this sense of idealism and romance. Each album gets further away from observing that through the lens of Ireland, as directly as Dogrel. The second album (A Hero’s Death) is about that detachment, and the third (Skinty Fia) is about Irishness dislocated in the diaspora. Now we look to where and what else there is to be romantic about.”

Magdalena Bay – Imaginal Disk

American electro-pop duo are often more intriguing than long-lasting with great visual style and the occasional banger of a tune. Their second album is a conceptual science fiction one involving an extraterrestrial LaserDisc that upgrades the person’s consciousness.

Nicole Miglis – Myopia

Hundred Waters’ singer releases a solo record of alternative electronic balladry. It’s all about her voice.

Mura Masa – Curve 1

Fourth studio album from the English producer. Features yeule, Cherish and Daniella Lalita.

Curve 1 is ultimately a manifestation of an attitude I’ve been cultivating in my personal life; ignore everything. All the content, all of the attention economy, all of it. In doing that, the really meaningful and vital parts of what’s around you make themselves known and unignorable, demanding your energy. It’s my first offering as an independent artist through my own record label, and as such I wanted it to be as free and anti-narrative as possible. Impressionistic.”

Susanna – Meditations On Love

Norwegian singer and composer spent five years writing this album, and Meditations on Love reflects the complexities and difficulties of maintaining love.

Meditations on Love explores what happens in between, examining the work required by a healthy relationship and contemplating the conditions that turn love into something toxic.

Sun Mahshene – A Place We’ve Never Been

Dublin six-piece of retro-indebted psych rock music.

Spirit of the Beehive – You’ll Have to Lose Something

The fifth album from the Portugal-based American trio known for psychedelic alt-rock and weird indie sounds. ‘Let The Virgin Drive’.

Sabrina Carpenter – Short n’ Sweet

The pop artist’s album that features singles ‘Espresso’ and ‘Please Please Please’.

illuminati hotties – POWER

Tenderpunk pioneer producer/writer Sarah Tudzin releases self-produced album of indie-rock.
