Here’s a rundown of new Albums & EPs on DSPs and physical releases in record shops this week.

Nialler9 keeps a rolling list of Irish album releases here.

New Albums

Kim Deal – Nobody Love You More

The Breeders/Pixies singer/guitarist’s first full-length album under her own name, released on 4AD.

Nobody Loves You More is Kim Deal’s debut album although it’s not the first time she has gone solo – she self-released a five-part, ten-song seven-inch vinyl series in 2013. In keeping with Deal’s meticulous approach to her art, the album was refined over several years.

Father John Misty – Mahashmashana

Mahashmashana is named after the Sanskrit for “great cremation ground, all things going thither,” and Tillmann is out there this week claiming his sixth record feels like his last.

Whether that’s true or not remains to be seen. The record sounds at first listen, unburdened by any great weight, revelling in its construction and craft, more sonically diverse for the first time in a while, while still widescreen.

Bibio – Phantom Brickworks (LP II)

The latest release is an ambient record from Stephen Wilkinson – a part two to the first released in 2017.

“The work explores the human echoes still present in various sites around Britain. Wilkinson has visited these locations, observed their gradual decline, and responded with improvised and composed music.

The new record draws attention to new sites – some are intriguing, vast scars on the natural landscape, others survive only in local memories, historic clips and photographs. A few remain submerged from ordinary sights, while some exist purely as legends and stories.”

TRAИƧA – Compilation

Red Hot’s inspiring new concept album is “a spiritual journey across 8 chapters and 46 songs, the record took over 3 years to produce and features over 100 artists, including Sade, Sam Smith, Hunter Schafer, Clairo, Andre 3000, Anohni, Faye Webster, Adrianne Lenker, Beverly Glenn-Copeland, an unearthed Pharoah Sanders track, and so many more gems.”

So many others involved: Yaeji, Bill Callahan, Jeff Tweedy, Claire Rousay, Kara Jackson, Moses Sumney, Julien Baker, SOAK, the list goes on.

Michael Kiwanuka – Small Changes

Fourth album from the UK singer-songwriter and guitarist. Small Changes was produced alongside Danger Mouse and Inflo, as on previous record KIWANUKA and and predecessor Love & Hate.

The new record was recorded between London and Los Angeles. The core trio made up of Kiwanuka and his trusty co-producers expanded into a wish-list ensemble that featured legendary bassist Pino Palladino (D’Angelo, John Mayer, Beyoncé) and Jimmy Jam of the iconic Jam and Lewis songwriting and production duo (Janet Jackson, Prince, SOS Band).

Cormorant Tree O – Moonish

Dublin disciplinary artist and musician Mary Keane seeks to interweave the sonic with the visual to create a distinct world, taking inspiration from folk, psychedelia, horror soundtracks and nature field recordings.

Moonish is Mary’s third album, released on Trapped Animal.

ZOiD Vs Musicians Vol 2

Musician and Zoitrax record label owner ZOiD, also known as Daniel Jacobson releases his sixth album showcasing ZOiD’s global collaborations with jazz musicians, creating a unique form of electronic jazz.

Features his brother Matthew Jacobson, jazz trombonist Colm O’Hara, saxophonist Steve Welsh, Dublin vocalist, composer, and jazz improvisation specialist Jenna Harris ” and Cork-based Congolese guitarist Niwel Tsumbu among others.
