Nearly 200 of you took the time to vote for your favourite Irish songs and albums of 2010 over the last few weeks. 221 songs were voted for and here are the results of the top 30. A somewhat surprising winner but it is a great song.. Also, special honour goes to Richter Collective label for having no less than 10 songs in the top 30.

who the fuck are square head??? what an awful song ,friends mega voting????
good year all the same 🙂
Squarehead are class. they appeared on the popical island compilation earlier this year, which you can still listen to here (http://popicalisland.bandcamp.com/album/popical-island-1).
Deserved number one choice. They are gonna have a great 2011
i was being sarcastic ,any one of the other 29 songs could take squareheads place…..not that great at all imo….but such is taste i suppose
Fake Blood is a popular song dude. That explains its placing.
thats the first time i listened to that squarehead tune, i gave it a fair hearing and.. it’s rubbish imho.. sounds like somebody unearthed a teenage stephen malkmus demo.. an excruciating listen.. just sayin’ is all..
lovely to see the shank boys so heavily represented, that album has entertained me like no other irish album this year. kicked the hell out of all the other instro-rock out there on the island. also lovely to see villagers get such props. saw them on monday in waterford, first time seeing them since the album dropped.. wow is all i can say.. what a live show.. anyone who hasnt got a ticket for their remaining shows in the next few days do yourself a favour and get out there and see em, people are going to be talking about this tour for a long time..
Pretty sure the video for tuff enough is there instead of take em up! Either way, I think it’s been a good year for us! Here’s to another great 2011!
Oops. You’re right there. changed.
Fake Blood was one of my favourite songs of the year, Irish or not.
Surprised but happy to see it at the top.
Great list. Can you give more away Niall? How many different Villagers songs received votes? Seems like everyone has a different favourite, and half the album is in the top 30!
I’ll publish the full list when the albums are up too.
Loving Solar Bears, hadn’t heard of them at all before now.
Niall: Great stuff, thanks. Can’t wait to see it.
Congrats Squarehead!
Not Squares ‘Asylum’ is the winner for me! Sounding very RSAG aint it? The album is a corker too.
When you look at it like this – 2010 was a fucking deadly year for Irish Music.
shame thread pulls didnt get on there ,hopefully in the albums list because it deserves it!
Ok so this isn’t indie/rock and there is only one line in the chorus and it’s Brekabeat/Techno but were very proud of it :

hmmmm….lots missing from this list! no low sea?
he’s come a long way from serenading drunken lithuanians, that boy
so how do the bands get nominated? or is it one of those “who you know” malarkys.? least As Shank got on it, that shows raw talent is at least considered.
Public vote bobo
