The Derry DJ and producer Or:la has announced a long-awaited debut album.
Trusting Theta will be released on September 20th on Fabric Originals, and feartures contributions from SOAK, Eliza Rose, and Mary Lake, and pulls from Or:la’s (Orlagh Dooley) wide-array loves of acid, breakbeat, UK bass, tribal house, deep house, 90’s techno and garage.
The now Liverpool-based artist’s Trusting Theta is inspired by Celtic and Greek mythology, and addresses sapphic love, friendship, female rage, community, the criminalisation of pepper spray as a self-defense tool, and was made for “The girls who get it, get it”.
In particular, Or:la was drawn to the Celt’s respect for women as healers, mothers and leaders.
New song ‘Chant’ is a body riddling-rhythm with vocals by Or:La herself inspired by life in London, and the city’s socialites.
The artwork for the album features Or:la as a 3D scan transformed into a stone bust that nods to the themes of the album, and a nod to how myths and legends, like the tale of Medusa, can be misinterpreted.
