PADDY HANNA - NIGHTMARES

We’ve been big supporters of the First Cut Youth Film Festival which gives five directors between the ages of 18 to 23 the opportunity to create a music video for an up and coming Irish act under the mentorship of established Irish filmmakers Brendan Canty and Bob Gallagher.

As a judge this year, I was privy to the high calibre of videos made by young directors, with Elaine Mai’s recent video for ‘3AM’, one of the shortlist.

The eventual winner was Ian Fallon’s horror comedy music video for ‘Nightmares’, a song from Paddy Hanna’s 2022 album Imagine I’m Hoping, which gets a public release today.

“The narrative follows a young couple as they desperately try to deal with one of them being a werewolf. Just as they find something that suppresses her homicidal tendencies (taking psychedelic mushrooms the night of the full moon), the police catch up to them and they must make one final decision in order to escape capture.

Nightmares’ was awarded the YMVC Best Music Video, for which Fallon received a €5,000 bursary.
