The theatre company Teaċ Daṁsa’s latest show debuts at Dublin Theatre Festival.
Teaċ Daṁsa have been responsible for some of Irish theatre’s most ambitious and deelpy resonating work on stage in recent years with shows like Swan Lake/Loch na hEala and MÁM.
The Nobodaddy show opens at Dublin Theatre Festival 2024, the company’s new show directed by Michael Keegan Dolan, from September 26th 7.30pm (Preview 25th Sept) at O’Reilly Theatre, Belvedere College and run 26-28 Sept, 30 Sept-5 Oct, 7:30pm.
The show premieres at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall on 17 September.
The show draws from the West Kerry Gaeltacht, and is “an affecting large-scale dance and theatre ritual for 9 dancers and 6 musicians” including American folk singer and musician Sam Amidon.
The title is taken from a line in William Blake’s notebook poems:
“Then old Nobodaddy aloft
Farted & belchd & coughd
And said I love hanging & drawing
& quartering
Every bit as well as war & slaughtering”
– William Blake (1793)
The show’s crew are currently rehearsing on the Dingle Peninsula with chef Katie Sanderson providing food.
