Sebi C goes into space with new album All Uselessness

Mike McGrath-Bryan

Another gem that’s flown under the radar by and large this past week has been the return of Sebi C, veteran Irish rhymer, vocalist for experimental outfit The Maori John Wayne, and one-half of the increasingly-storied Flying Buttresses project, alongside skratchador enmascarado Naive Ted.

All Uselessness sees Sebi re-emerge from hiatus with his trademark lyrical deftness and tongue-in-cheek humour intact, while analogue, oddball production from Community Skratch Games man/Street Fighter virtuoso Jimmy Penguin is evident from front to back, featuring contributions and ideas from Penguin side-project Run the Jukes and Athlone techno improvisers Krayb David.

The album’s release was accompanied over the weekend with a video for leadoff single ‘Heron Sentries’, streaming below, and formally marking an album finally made after fifteen years of collaboration between Sebi and Jimmy across live performances, singles and mixtapes.

Sebi C and Jimmy Penguin perform the new album live tonight at the Roisín Dubh in Galway, with support from Alkalinear Recordings DJs and IXRQ. Doors at 8pm.
