Remix roundup: Sleigh Bells, Janelle Monae, Beastie Boys, The Vinny Club, Delorean, MIA, Clock Opera ..
Lots of great remixes have hit the blogs this week so here’s a roundup of the best. I have to credit Hypetrak for turning me onto most of these tracks – check them out.
Beastie Boys – ‘Sabotage’ (Alex Metric Remix)
One of my all-time favourite tunes get a pretty effective re-edit for the dancefloor.
Janelle Monáe featuring B.o.B & Lupe Fiasco – ‘Tightrope’ (Wondamix)
Monae’s new album Archandroid is a breathe of fresh air, like Monae herself with a eclectic switchup of styles. Here she gets hot rapper B.O.B and the talented Lupe Fiasco on a remix of ‘Tightrope’.
Lafaro – ‘Tuppenny Nudger’ (The Vinny Club remix)
This one came from the SmallTown America label’s mailing list via their blog. The Lafaro album is out now.
Cold Cave – ‘Life Magazine’ (Delorean remix)
Delorean give Cold Cave’s original a sun-shining Basque country twist.
Sleigh Bells – Run The Heart (Bassnectar remix)
Not a huge difference to the original here then but then that already kicks ass so this just adds some DJ-friendly touches and beats.
Au Revoir Simone – ‘Tell Me’ (Clock Opera Remix)
After his stellar Marina remix, Clock Opera applies the same quality to Brooklyn trio Au Revoir Simone. This is from their upcoming remix album which has some impressive remixers.
MIA – Born Free (High Contrast Remix)
MIA’s starting to get annoying lately with all this NY Times article rubbish but there ya go. This brings the focus back to the tunes by improving on the somewhat rambling original with huge beats and an urgency lacking from the original. It is Drum and Bass DJ High Contrast after all.
