FKA Twigs, Pa Salieu
Honda
FKA Twigs’ new mixtape out today Caprisongs allows Twigs to release a long-player imbued with fun, friendship, affirmations and hip-hop and pop-influenced songs without making a definitive statement. An ideal release for January and one that is miles away from the heaviness of 2019’s Magdalene.
2
Earl Sweatshirt
Titanic
Earl dropped his fourth album Sick! today and ‘Titanic’ is one of a number of wonky beat productions on it.
3.
Soulé
Body
Lovely to hear a new song from Dublin artist Soulé. ‘Body’ was written as part of a Spotify songwriting camp in Dublin with Swedish-Iranian producer Moh Denebi and Irish singer-songwriter Cian Ducrot.
A video premieres at 6pm:

!!!
All I Wanted Was A Photograph
!!! (Chk Chk Chk) are back with one of their typical dance-funk stompers. The song features an old-fashioned fade out and was inspired by a true story involving “an AK-47, an ill-advised joke, and the resulting tense visit from the Secret Service.”
The song was created for the Song Confessional podcast, which just launched its 2nd season. On Song Confessional bands and songwriters turn true anonymous “confessions” into new original songs. Each episode features the story that inspires the original song, the song premiere, and an interview with the songwriter

An announcement of an Irish tour and a new album in April, Kae Tempest is back. Brockhampton’s Kevin Abstract guests on ‘More Pressure’.

Your eyes, your cheeks
Your features creaseMore desire, less deceit

Imarhan, Gruff Rhys
Adar Newlan
Tuareg band Imarhan are releasing their third album Aboogi this month (January 28th) on City Slang. ‘Adar Newlan’ features the voice of Gruff Rhys too.
7.
Guerilla Toss
Cannibal Capital
Newly signed to Sub Pop, Guerilla Toss are a New York band who make glittering off-kilter kraut-influenced art-rock, at least that’s how I’d describe ‘Cannibal Capital’.
It’s from their forthcoming fifth album Famously Alive out on March 25th on the label.
Guerilla Toss are singer and lyricist Kassie Carlson, multi-instrumentalist Peter Negroponte and guitarist Arian Shafiee.
8.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
Black Hot Soup (DJ Shadow “My Own Reality” Re-Write)
DJ Shadow tackling the prolific Australian band who I can’t keep up with. His take on ‘Black Hot Soup’ is a big beat Skint Records breakbeat groove. The original features on their 2021 album Butterfly 3000.
9.
Warmduscher
Fatso
No one does sleazy sounding rock quite like London band Warmduscher. ‘Fatso’ is from their forthcoming album Live At The Hotspot, out on April 1st on Bella Union.
10.
Nina Simone
Be My Husband (Hot Chip remix)
The release of a Nina Simone greatest hits and remix album Feeling Good: Her Greatest & Remixes gives us this Hot Chip rework, alongside remixes from Floorplan, Riton, Joel Corry, Rudimental, Soft Tukker, Honne and more.
Seems like a missed opportunity to give black producers the chance to work with an iconic black voice if you ask me. 😬
