Charli XCX
So I
Among the club bangers on Charli’s new and sixth studio album brat are revelations of inadequacy and insecurity.
Nowhere is Charli more unadorned emotionally on the record, than ‘So I’ the song dedicated and written about producer and collaborator Sophie, who tragically passed away in 2021.
The bright electronic synth ballad references Sophie’s most baring song and is filled with regret, and wonder about whether her friend would approve of the song.
“Track was done, I’d make excuses / You’d say, “Come on, stay for dinner” / I’d say, “No, I’m fine” (Now I really wish I stayed).
Peggy Gou
Back To One
After the surprise smash-hit of ‘It Goes (Na Na Na)’ last year, Peggy Gou’s debut album is a cementing long player release that features that song and other previous tracks like ‘I Go’ and the Lenny Kravitz collaboration.
That is also to say there’s not a huge amount on it so far that’s grabbed me for keepsakes beyond this effective 90s dance throwback with Peggy singing vocals. It recalls the best of her early material like ‘Starry Night‘ which is no bad thing.
Caribou
Broke My Heart
Dan Snaith creates a cross section of his Caribou and Daphni projects with ‘Broke My Heart’, a track that leans on the more dancier vibes of the latter DJ-focused project, with pitched-vocals from himself, and nods to UK garage and bass music.
“i always find it hard to believe those ‘it came to me in a dream’ stories about songs arriving fully formed… but this one was pretty close to that, which is not how it usually goes for me. i sat down at a piano one day and the string riff was just there at my fingertips and the vocal melody followed right behind it. i wish they all happened like that.”
Joey Valance & Brae, Danny Brown
Packapunch
Old school ’90s rap vibes incoming with Beastie Boys and Wu Tang influence, is this retro hip-hop track from the American duo’s second album No Hands which is out today.
By the time Danny Brown shows up on the guest verse, this has gone full Cypress Hill.
FOZSA
Droplets
The welcome return of Irish producer Luke O’Brien aka FOZSA to our features with this headphones-friendly dancefloor cut that spins on its earworm soulful vocal sample.
‘The new music I have been making is the reaction to a
combination of not being physically able to make music
for so long and a change of environment from Dublin to
Barcelona. I worked an extremely stressful job when I
first arrived in the city and when I finally found time for
music again at the beginning of this year, it all came
flooding out. I had a craving for sounds that felt
expansive, textured and immersive. I built a makeshift
studio set up in my apartment and began to collect
samples, synth patches and effects that felt inspiring.
‘droplets’ for me feels like the best introduction to this
new world I’ve built for myself musically.

She Loves Me
Released a few weeks back, ‘She Loves Me’ is the LA-based New York songwriter Dora Jar’s newest single brandishing bright indie pop melodies and lyrics about rhe line between her public and her private selves, as echoed in the video.
A new album is forthcoming.
Frances Forever, dacelynn
Baby Bangs
Baby bangs are Boston artist Frances Forever’s kryptonite, as espoused on this pretty little American indie pop ditty, who today also released a song and collaboration with Miya Follick about unwanted straight attention in a bar. Both are from the album Lockjaw, out June 28th.
Quantic, Andreya Triana
Brooklyn Heat (Extended)
