Premiere: Tanjier up their pace in new single ‘Miles’

Ruth Cronin

Tanjier are a band that have been gathering momentum within the Irish music scene for some time. Since their inception in 2016, the three piece’s smooth brand of electro-pop has merited them slots at the likes of Electric Picnic, Other Voices and Forbidden Fruit. Their new single ‘Miles’, out this Friday, might just be the ingredient that lifts them onto the next tier.

‘Miles’ draws its listener in gradually at first and then all at once, with luscious synths and arps that grow tentatively in texture before an irresistible instrumental section after each chorus. The band cite LCD Soundsystem and LANY as influences and it is easy to hear those here in the rich synth lines and intricate percussion rhythms. Written about the strain of a long distance relationship, the song juxtaposes longing in the lyrics with an upbeat tempo and lead hook.

Lead vocalist Tommy says that:

“The song is about the difficulties of long distance relationships. My partner moved to Abu Dhabi in September for work which brought some challenges for us. It deals with feelings of desperation and anger at the situation, but ultimately it’s a positive song depicting a healthy relationship.”
